GL-CRSP News Article - The GL-CRSP End of Program Conference "From Problem Models to Solutions"

The GL-CRSP End of Program Conference "From Problem Models to Solutions" was held in Navaisha, Kenya from June 16th-19th.  The conference represented the culmination of 11 years of research and development work by CRSP projects, and that of hundreds of our colleagues and partner institutions.  Conference presentations and discussions centered on GL-CRSP achievements, project development and evolution, lessons learned, and explorations of future areas of research within the complex interface of animal agriculture and development.

Though it was difficult to bid farewell to the GL-CRSP program, it was inspiring to convene as a community and highlight GL-CRSP accomplishments.  Technologies developed through the GL-CRSP are now in use from Mali to Mongolia, and on the ground across Africa and Asia.  Women’s groups are employing GL-CRSP generated knowledge, making remarkable gains in social status and income that impact the development of their children.  Across the globe, GL-CRSP projects have trained trainers to respond to avian flu and understand the links between the environment and zoonotic disease.  The GL-CRSP has aggressively addressed the serious divides that exist between agriculture, nutrition and human development, showing that meat consumption in developing countries is critical to child cognitive and physical development.  Finally, the GL-CRSP was a leader in recognizing the importance of risk management for the poor, pastoralists as prime targets for mechanisms to cope with risk, and grasslands as carbon sinks, marketable as credits if efficient measurement methods could be developed.

We are proud to announce that these achievements, highlights, and lessons learned will be featured in an upcoming publication: "Proceedings from the GL-CRSP End of Program Conference: From Problem Models to Solutions."  News about this publication, along with other intriguing publications, podcasts, and materials will be continually featured here on the GL-CRSP website.
