From SciDev.Net: A new report from the FAO and ILRI entitled "The State of the World's Animal Genetic Resources" has identified 70% of the world's remaining unique livestock breeds in developing countries. These breeds are specially adapted to harsh environments and local conditions and are facing the threat of extinction, as over-reliance on a few specific high-yielding breeds causes on average the loss of one breed per month.
