PARIMA Collective Action Groups recognized as Development Heroes

Amino and Abduba Haleke of Tile Mado Cooperative, and Dikayo of Maleb-Chamuk cooperative, members of the PARIMA Projects Collective Action Groups were recognized as Development Heroes by Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi at the Ethiopian National Pastoralist Day celebration on January 25, 2008. The women accepted the awards on behalf of their respective cooperatives. Pastoralist Day in Ethiopia was first celebrated in 1991. This years theme: More commitment for good governance and sustainable pastoralist development in the new Ethiopian Millennium, created a forum for discussions on pastoralist livelihood enhancement among pastoralists, government organizations and NGOs. Recognition for the womens cooperatives at the event helped focus national attention on the groups successes and the PARIMA Projects efforts in community development. Amino and the Tile Mado Cooperative have also received a trophy for outstanding performance at the zonal level. Another Pastoralist Day for the Oromia regional state recognizing additional development heroes is scheduled for February 2nd in Negelle.
