Excerpt - Pratchaya W., 14 October 2008: "Scientists have urged policymakers to consider small-scale livestock producers when developing new policies to cut greenhouse gass (GHG) emissions from the sector...The livestock sector produces 18 per cent of the world's GHG emissions, with more than 13 per cent produced by transport, according to [Carlos Sere, director-general of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)]. But calls to reduce GHG emissions of the sector by 'shunning' meat for example, could put the livelihoods of farmers in developing countries at risk. Such calls are too simplistic and don't differentiate between producers in the sector."
